DIY Kitchen Remodeling

You're about to enter the exciting world of DIY kitchen remodeling! Put on your hard hat and let's get to work!

Remodeling a kitchen yourself has so many advantages!

  • Save money
  • Creative freedom to customize your kitchen
  • Learn new skills and put them to work for you
  • The pride and satisfaction only do-it-yourselfers understand!

"I'm thinking of remodeling my kitchen myself.
Is it hard to do?"

The answer depends on several things:

  1. Are you going to do ALL the work yourself of have some of it done? If you're a bona fide beginner, I recommend doing the easier things yourself and hiring subcontractors for the rest.
  2. What skills do you already have? Which are you willing to learn? You'll need to be a plumber, electrician, carpenter, and more - depending on what your remodel entails.
  3. How much time do you have? Can you live without a kitchen for the time it takes you to remodel it? Remodeling your own kitchen often takes longer because of amateur skills. AND your time each day is probably limited by - oh I don't know - your job, maybe?

If you know what you're doing - OR if you want to try your hand at it and learn new skills - GO FOR IT!

And be sure to check out my Kitchen Remodel Survival Guide for handy tips on preparing, living through, and keeping your sanity during a remodel!

And more how-to...

In the Cheap Kitchen Makeovers section of this site, you can find more DIY instructions on how to refinish cabinets, tiling countertops, and self-stick tile flooring how-to in Cheap Floors.

All the how-to's I write about aren't things you have to get "good at" just have to follow instructions. Plus I've included lots of professional tips and techniques.

How do I know how to do these things? I've done it! Plus I have help - my husband, who has a remodeling/handyman company, has taught me a boatload of extras I'm passing along to you.
