Ugly tile counter top

My daughter just bought a house with a very small kitchen and the one thing she finds intolerable is that it has a 4" x 4" ceramic tile counter top with grouting in between.
Is there any product that can go over top this instead of replacing it? Any ideas?

MY ANSWER: There are several new ways to cover an existing countertop...

One is called Counter Coat, a coating system that is supposed to be DIY friendly and give you a smooth solid-surface look. These kits are available online or in home centers.

Another is Granite Transformations, a company that installs (in one day) a custom countertop made from granite (and other materials like recycled glass as well) right over your old one.

OR...Since your daughter's kitchen is small, it might not be too expensive to just replace the whole thing with the material of her choice.
